____ A BIT ABOUT ME ____
Hi there. My name is Noi. Yep, it’s my real name. I’m not from anywhere fun or terribly exotic like Fiji or Hawaii or some fabulous tropical island…. I was born on a very different island in New York: right in the middle of Manhattan. From what I can cobble together from stories, here’s how my name was made up:

When she was 8 months pregnant with me, my mother thought she’d heard my father and grandfather say “Noi” in conversation. So she went running out of the kitchen, wet hands waving over her big belly and excitedly exclaimed, “That’s going to be my daughter’s name!” My father and grandfather apparently looked at her quizzically, saying something to the effect of “What? We didn’t say any… Um, were talking about racing…!” (My father had an advertising company and a major client at the time was the Gatorade Racing Team.) But that didn’t stop my mother. Nope. She’d found what she’d been looking for. She just, turned, nodding and said “Noi. Yeah…. She’ll be as different and unique as her name…” and wandered back to the kitchen.

So here I am, a third generation New Yorker (and current Floridian) with a one-of-a-kind name. I can’t say that I’m that all *that* unique, but guess I don’t exactly fit the “normal” mold either. Let’s see if I can summarize a little for you….

I’m a mom to a wonderful 6-year-old boy and a wife to my best friend in the whole world. By day I’m a video editor (I’ve been editing TV shows, commercials and music videos since 1992). By night I’m a compulsive graphic designer (I’m constantly creating things for print and web – much to the delight of friends and family for whom I create and to the chagrin of my DH, who somehow puts up with my need to create things without getting paid – like this blog!!) and an “amateur” photographer [I take TONS of photos, like 60,000+ in the last 7 years!] so my amateur status is simply due to the fact that I don’t take money for ’em, not ’cause I don’t do it enough! 😛 ). My dream is to someday be a working screenwriter instead of a working editor (at any given time I’m working on three or four screenplays… but that’s a whole ‘nother blog).

Oh – and I’m newly gluten-free. Click here to read about my GLUTEN-FREE JOURNEY

Keep up the great work, Noi!! There are lots of us out here reading your blog, and its very helpful!

I was diagnosed with CD nearly 4 years ago and still struggle with inadvertent exposure to gluten occasionally….although I am really careful about eliminating all sources of it.

I’m curious as to whether your whole family is following a GTD now? (your husband and son?) If that’s not too personal, of course….

Thanks again, and best of luck!

Thanks for the note! It’s nice to know there are actually people out there reading. :)

To answer you question, our who family is gluten-free while in the house (we don’t let ANY in so as to minimize risk of contamination) but still eats gluten outside in the “real world.”

      Thanks again for reading!

I love your web-site. I came across it while looking on gluten free foods at Chick-Fil-A. By the way, I have had a grilled chicken sandwich with a lettuce bun and it was great! No stomach upset. I have been gluten free for 2 years and every day I feel healthier and better than the nday before, and I am so glad for people like you who put the information and resources out there. Have a great day.

Oh my gosh!! Thank you SOOO much for letting me know that you read me! :) You’re the first person to ever comment on my site. (I get others, but I suspect they’re auto-generated since they don’t write about specifics…) But I’ve been writing into a vacuum for so long I was beginning to think no one really was reading and that I should give up.

And thanks for letting me know about your experience about Chick-fil-a. I’ll totally have to try it now. This is our son’s favorite place to go (great playground + chicken nuggets = happy six-year-old!). It’s very encouraging to hear that you didn’t have any stomach upset. The next time I go I’ll have to give it a try and post back.

It’s so wonderful that you’re getting more healthy with each passing day. I know it’s not always easy being gluten-free, but it’s so worth it when you can feel such a difference, isn’t it?!

      Thanks again for commenting, Ashley!!
